Super Eagles striker Iheanacho fighting for his future at Sevilla
Published: December 09, 2024
The future of Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho at Sevilla is up in the air despite having a contract with the Andalusian outfit until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
The former Leicester City man joined Sevilla in the summer window on a free transfer, as a replacement for Morocco striker Youssef En-Nesyri, who switched to Fenerbahce.
Iheanacho has struggled for playing time in La Liga, making just one start in the last eight games in the division, and has yet to find the back of the net in 356 minutes of action.
According to Seville based sports newspaper, Estadio Deportivo, Sevilla ware seriously considering the possibility of him leaving in the winter transfer market if a team knocked on his door and released him from his contract.
Despite Iheanacho impressing in the Copa del Rey with three goals in two games against weaker opponents, his departure from Sevilla is not completely ruled out.
Iheanacho's commitment and goalscoring success in the Copa del Rey have increased doubts and the possibility of him staying is gaining strength, provided that there is no need for him to leave for a new signing or a very interesting offer does not arrive.
Sevilla coach García Pimienta admitted that the Nigerian is not getting the minutes he deserves but noted that other players are performing better.
Iheanacho came off the bench in the second minute of stoppage time as Sevilla threw away a two-goal lead to lose 4-3 to Atlético de Madrid on Sunday.
