Osimhen hails Nigeria's second all-time top scorer in Super Lig history after Galatasaray v Trabzonspor
Published: December 17, 2024
Victor Osimhen has paid tribute to Nigeria's second all-time top scorer in Turkish Super Lig history, Anthony Nwakaeme, after the Trendyol Süper Lig fixture between Galatasaray and Trabzonspor yesterday at RAMS Park.
Nwakaeme started the game for Trabzonspor while Osimhen was a substitute during the enthralling encounter as Galatasaray lost a two-goal lead, trailed by a goal before fighting back to win 4-3.
Nwakaeme is one of the best Nigerian forwards in Super Lig history, having scored 42 goals in 128 appearances, making him the second Nigerian top-scorer in the Turkish top flight.
Only former Flying Eagles captain, Isaac Promise scored more goals than Nwakeme, netting 65 in 271 games for six different clubs.
He has played only for Trabzonspor but was not at the club until last summer and has only scored one goal on his return.
The 35-year-old played in his 12th game of the season for Trabzonspor yesterday as they lost narrowly to Osimhen's Galatasaray.
The Galatasaray forward met with Nwakaeme after the game and shared a picture of them discussing with a caption on social media showing his respect for the Trabzonspor forward.
'Senior man, good to see you again," Osimhen said.
Osimhen had recovered from a muscle strain to feature in the clash, coming on as a replacement for Yunus Akgün in the 75th minute as the Lion pushed for the goal, with the scores at 3-3 at the time he came on the pitch.
He has played in eight Süper Lig games this season, starting all but two, and has scored seven goals.
