'A striker with so much power' - Anderlecht coach reveals Arokodare will be a marked man
Published: December 21, 2024
RSC Anderlecht manager David Hubert has revealed that his side will keep a close eye on Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare ahead of their Jupiler Pro-League clash with Racing Genk at Cegeka Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Arokodare has been one of the most prolific strikers in the Belgian top flight this term, proving to be a handful for the opposition's defenders and helping Genk's quest to win the league title for the first time since the 2018/2019 campaign.
He has scored 10 goals this season, the second-highest tally in the Jupiler Pro-League, two less than the division's top-scorer, Kasper Dolberg.
He could have been just a goal behind Dolberg if he had converted the penalty he took in Genk's 2-0 loss to Raphael Onyedika's Club Brugge last weekend.
Arokodare scored twice against Anderlecht in the Jupiler Pro-League play-offs last season, and they would be working towards avoiding the same in tomorrow's fixture.
Speaking in his pre-match conference ahead of the game, Hubert praised the Nigerian striker and revealed that his side are ready to stop him, just like they did to FC Porto's Nigerian striker Samu Omorodion in the UEFA Europa League last month.
In quotes relayed by voetbalprimeur, he said: "A striker with so much power is one of their weapons, yes.
"Fortunately, we have played against such a profile regularly in recent weeks. Look at Samu from Porto as an example. Of course, we have a plan to block Tolu."
Arokodare has been linked with a move away from Genk, but an exit next month is highly unlikely at this stage.
