Fabrizio Romano reveals he's unaware of Chelsea target Osimhen being in talks with Man Utd
Published: December 27, 2024
Transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that viral reports linking Chelsea target Victor Osimhen with a transfer to Premier League giants Manchester United are wide of the mark at this time.
It was earlier claimed that Manchester United had been offered an opportunity to acquire the former African Footballer of the Year in the January transfer window, with one of Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Højlund or Joshua Zirkzee moving in the opposite direction to Napoli.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray in September 2024 on loan for the remainder of the season, but in theory, the agreement contains a break clause that allows the center forward to join another club on a permanent deal next month, provided Galatasaray receive compensation.
However, the 25-year-old has stated again and again that he intends to see out his contract with Galatasaray, meaning speculation about him joining another team next month is off-topic.
Chelsea attempted to bring Osimhen to Stamford Bridge in the hours leading up to the close of the summer transfer window but could not agree personal terms with the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner.
The Blues remain interested in the Nigeria international, who has a release clause of 75 million euros in his current contract, but face strong competition for his services next summer, with Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus also monitoring his situation.
Writing in his GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano said: "I'm not aware of concrete talks taking place, despite links with Man United.
"The situation remains quiet at the moment; the only way to change it is triggering the clause into his Napoli contract (he's on loan at Galatasaray) and also reaching an agreement on salary close to €11m net per season. Not an easy one."
Osimhen has put his failed move to Chelsea behind him, registering twelve goals and five assists for Galatasaray.
