Former Arsenal GK considers Lookman best forward of the season despite Globe Soccer Awards snub
Published: December 27, 2024
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano considers Ademola Lookman the best forward of the 2023-2024 season, despite the Atalanta star being snubbed in two categories at the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards.
Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior won the award for the best player of 2024 at the Globe Soccer Awards Gala held at the Atlantis Hotel in La Palmera on Friday, December 27.
The Brazil international also won the Best Forward award, beating the likes of Erling Haaland (Manchester City), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan), Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Lamine Yamal (Barcelona) to the accolade.
In an interview with TvPlay, via IlVaporetto, Emiliano Viviano highlighted Lookman's success last season, noting that his historic hat-trick in the 2024 Europa League final makes him the best forward of the season.
Viviano pointed out that Lookman's success on the field is due to a combination of natural talent and continuous physical and mental preparation.
The Charlton Athletic academy graduate registered 17 goals and 10 assists in 45 all-competition appearances for Atalanta over the course of last season.
On the international stage, Lookman was Nigeria's standout forward at the Africa Cup of Nations, scoring three goals and providing an assist to help the Super Eagles reach the final, where they were narrowly defeated by host nation Ivory Coast.
The 27-year-old was named African Footballer of the Year on December 16 and earned a Ballon d'Or nomination, finishing fourteenth in the final rankings.
