From generation to generation: Kevin Martins follows in his father's footsteps with first Serie A assist
Published: December 28, 2024Kevin Martins, the son of former Inter Milan forward Obafemi Martins, has followed in his father's footsteps by bagging his first assist in the Italian Serie A.
The 19-year-old made his contribution in the league during Monza's clash against Parma on Saturday, December 28.
Despite the team's disappointing 2-1 defeat, Kevin Martins showcased his potential by providing an assist for Pereira’s equalizer after Hernani had given Parma the lead with a penalty in the 56th minute.
The match saw Kevin Martins’ contribution come at a significant moment, as it marked 6,880 days since his father, Obafemi Martins, last recorded an assist in the Italian top-flight, against Udinese on February 26, 2006.
This stat underscored the legacy that Kevin is beginning to carve out for himself in Italian football.
Unfortunately for Monza, the match ended on a sour note as they conceded a late winner to Parma, with Valenti finding the net in the 98th minute, sealing Monza's fate in the match.
Despite the loss, Kevin Martins has been a bright spot this season, providing 4 assists in 12 matches across all competitions for the Monza teams.
His performances reflect a promising future as he continues to develop his skills in Serie A.
Monza currently sit at the bottom of the league table with only ten points, struggling to find their footing in the competition.
