Derby della Capitale: Ex-Lazio midfielder gives three reasons Dele-Bashiru should start against Roma
Published: January 02, 2025
Former Lazio midfielder Roberto Rambaudi has has highlighted three convincing reasons to include Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in Lazio's starting XI for the Derby della Capitale clash against Roma this Sunday.
Dele-Bashiru, who made the move to Lazio after a standout spell with Turkish club Hatayspor, initially faced challenges adjusting to life in Serie A, despite a promising debut against Venezia.
The Nigerian international has since adjusted to the demands of Serie A, steadily improving his performance and showcasing his ability to impact games.
His progress is evident in several key areas, including physicality, positioning, and confidence.
However, Rambaudi explained these improvements make Dele-Bashiru a valuable asset for Lazio in the derby, providing the team with the tools to apply pressure on their rivals.
Speaking to Radiosei, Rambaudi emphasized Dele-Bashiru's significant progress in the three key areas, highlighting how these attributes could pose challenges for AS Roma.
"I think Dele-Bashiru will be there from the first minute. He is confident, in condition, he can play multiple roles," Rambaudi explained.
"He is the most functional. He also has the physicality and the change of pace to cause problems for the opposing team when you steal the ball and he can put pressure on Paredes."
The midfielder's recent performances have further solidified his growing stature in the team.
Dele-Bashiru has scored two goals in the last five Serie A matches, including a standout display against Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico.
With the Rome derby on the horizon, Dele-Bashiru will be eager to build on his progress, solidify his spot in the starting lineup, and play a pivotal role in driving the team to victory against their arch-rivals.
