Borussia Dortmund's search for a box-to-box midfielder: Chelsea's Chukwuemeka on shortlist
Published: January 07, 2025
Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has emerged as a transfer target for Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, according to Sky Sports Germany.
The Nigerian-descent midfielder has endured a challenging season at Stamford Bridge, struggling for game time under Enzo Maresca.
Chukwuemeka has yet to feature in the Premier League this campaign, with his only appearances coming in the Carabao Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League.
His lack of involvement has fueled speculation about his future at the club.
Since joining Chelsea from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022 for a reported £20 million, the 21-year-old has made just 32 appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Sky Sports reported that Chukwuemeka could leave Stamford Bridge before the end of the January transfer window, with Dortmund closely monitoring his situation.
Dortmund, on the hunt for a dynamic box-to-box midfielder in the January transfer window, reportedly see Chukwuemeka as a perfect fit due to his energy and ability to make late runs into the box.
A move to the Bundesliga could provide the young midfielder with the consistent playing time he has lacked at Chelsea, potentially allowing him to unlock his full potential and continue his development at the top level.
