Sadio Mane's brace and Ronaldo's penalty sink Al-Okhdood despite Saviour Godwin's goal
Published: January 09, 2025
Nigerian forward Saviour Godwin made a strong impact in the Saudi Pro League as Al-Okhdood faced Al-Nassr on January 9, 2025.
Scoring the opening goal in the sixth minute, Godwin put his team ahead with a clinical right-footed shot from the center of the box.
The goal, which found the top left corner, was a result of Al-Okhdood's fast break and solid teamwork.
Al-Nassr responded swiftly, with Sadio Mané equalizing in the 29th minute and then putting his team ahead in the 88th minute.
Cristiano Ronaldo also added a penalty for Al-Nassr in the 42nd minute, bringing the score to 2-1 at halftime.
Godwin’s early strike had put Al-Okhdood in a promising position, but Al-Nassr’s attacking strength and depth proved too much for the visitors.
Despite another strong effort from Godwin, who was substituted late in the game, Al-Okhdood couldn’t maintain their lead and ultimately succumbed to a 3-1 defeat.
Godwin was arguably the standout player for the Flying Eagles at the 2015 Fifa U20 World Cup in New Zealand, where he contributed to three goals in four appearances.
After the tournament, he was promoted to Nigeria's Olympic national team and later made his long-awaited debut for the Super Eagles in an international friendly against Algeria in September 2022.
