Ligue 1: Super Eagles star Moses Simon misses big chance as Nantes draw 2-2 with Monaco
Published: January 10, 2025
Moses Simon played a crucial role in Nantes' 2-2 draw with Monaco in the Ligue 1 Round 17 match on Friday.
Despite the disappointing result, Simon showcased his ability to create chances and press the opposition.
The Nigerian winger's first notable contribution came in the 11th minute when he seized an opportunity inside the box, unleashing a promising strike toward the bottom right corner.
Monaco's goalkeeper, Philipp Kohn, displayed excellent reflexes to deny Simon with a fine save.
Simon's persistence was evident, as he continued to cause problems for the Monaco defense, often finding himself in dangerous positions.
One of his most impactful moments arrived in the 82nd minute. Simon received a well-timed pass inside the box but, to his frustration, the ball hit the crossbar, missing an excellent opportunity to put Nantes ahead.
His composure and sharp positioning were clear throughout the game, but the final touch eluded him on this occasion.
Simon was involved in several key offensive moves, including creating chances from set-pieces.
His free-kick delivery in the 43rd minute was dangerous, though it failed to produce a clear opportunity when a rebound shot from Sorba Thomas was blocked.
He remained active throughout the match, linking up well with teammates and contributing defensively when required.
Despite a few misfires, Simon’s energy and flair were key assets for Nantes as they fought hard against a resilient Monaco side.
Nantes will be disappointed to have squandered a two-goal lead after early strikes from Matthis Abline and Kelvin Amian as Monaco fought back with goals from Breel Embolo and Mohammed Salisu to secure a draw.
