Top source reveals West Ham are interested in signing Nottingham Forest striker Awoniyi

According to a top West Ham source, ExWHUEmployee, via GIVEMESPORT, English Premier League outfit West Ham United are exploring the possibility of signing Nottingham Forest and Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, due to the current injury crisis plaguing the club's striker department.

The Hammers are eager to bolster their attacking options, and Awoniyi's situation at Forest has made him an attractive target.

New West Ham manager Graham Potter is tasked with turning around the team's fortunes, and adding a prolific striker to his squad is a top priority.

The London club has struggled for consistency this season, winning six of their 20 Premier League games.

Awoniyi's situation at Forest is uncertain, as the Nigerian striker has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, with Chris Wood preferred upfront, limiting his opportunities.

He has started just two of 15 league games, scoring only one goal.

Despite his limited playing time, Awoniyi's qualities as a target man have not gone unnoticed.

West Ham sees similarities between Awoniyi and injured striker Michail Antonio, who will miss the rest of the season due to a broken leg.

Forest signed Awoniyi from Union Berlin in July 2022 for a then-club record fee of £17 million.

However, after struggling with injuries last season, he has found himself down the pecking order under Nuno Espirito Santo.

With two and a half years remaining on his contract, Awoniyi may be tempted to seek a move to revive his career.

West Ham's interest could provide the opportunity he needs to regain his confidence and rediscover his scoring form.

While Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo recently praised Awoniyi, suggesting that the team needs him, the striker's future at the City Ground remains uncertain.

West Ham's potential offer could test Forest's resolve to keep their Nigerian striker.
