'I don't want to play against Osimhen' - Ex-Besiktas star says defenders dread facing Galatasaray striker
Published: January 13, 2025
Former Besiktas midfielder Nihat Kahveci has stated that he would have dreaded playing against Victor Osimhen, describing the Galatasaray striker as a nightmare for defenders.
Osimhen has taken the Turkish Super Lig by storm since his loan move from Napoli last September.
His assist in Galatasaray's 2-1 victory over Basaksehir FK on Sunday brings his total to nineteen goal contributions in seventeen appearances across all competitions for The Lion.
Osimhen's physicality and aerial presence make him a formidable striker as he combines strength, agility and explosive power to outmuscle defenders and dominate aerial duels.
His leaping ability ensures he is a constant threat in the box, converting crosses into goals with finesse.
Osimhen has brought confidence to the Galatasaray squad with his exceptional performances, and they remain unbeaten since the former African Footballer of the Year joined the club.
Commenting about the Başakşehir FK versus Galatasaray match on Kontraspor's Youtube channel, Nihat Kahveci said, according to habersarikirmizi.com: "If I were a defender, I wouldn't want to play against Osimhen and Barış Alper.
"It wasn't Kerem Demirbay's day. He did his best but he was Galatasaray's bad name on the field. The first yellow card given to Torreira was too harsh."
Kahveci defended the referee's decision to allow Galatasaray's second goal, even though the ball touched Osimhen's hand during the buildup to Barış Alper Yılmaz's decisive strike.
"The ball comes to Osimhen's hand but his hand is in a natural position. Even if Osimhen scores the goal or it hits his hand and the ball falls and Barış Alper Yılmaz shoots, it is definitely disallowed but then that ball goes to Barış Alper, time passes and it is a goal. The hand is not given."
After eighteen matches in the Turkish Super Lig, Galatasaray top the standings with 50 points, eleven more than nearest challengers Fenerbahce.
