'Look at Onuachu' - Ex-Belgium defender insists it would be difficult for Arokodare to thrive in PL
Published: January 13, 2025
Tolu Arokodare's impressive form in the Belgian Pro League has caught the attention of Premier League clubs, with Racing Genk reportedly hoping to receive a bid of around 25 million euros for the Nigerian striker.
Arokodare has been in scintillating form since the campaign began, currently leading the league's top scorers' chart with 13 goals.
The 24-year-old's impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with his combined 18 goal involvements making him one of the most influential players in the league.
Arokodare's remarkable turnaround has been a welcome boost for Genk, who were initially concerned about his ability to replicate the consistency of his predecessor, Paul Onuachu.
However, not everyone is convinced that Arokodare is ready for the Premier League.
Olivier Deschacht, a retired Belgium defender, has expressed some reservations about Arokodare's ability to succeed in the English top-flight.
"Will someone pay 20 million to take Tolu away? It could be possible, but I don't think so," Deschacht said to DAZN via voetbalbelgie.
"I look at Onuachu. I rate him higher than Tolu, but he couldn't make it in the Premier League. It would be difficult for Tolu too."
Deschacht's comments are a reference to Onuachu's unsuccessful stint with Southampton, where he has failed to score in 24 matches.
Onuachu's experience serves as a cautionary tale for Arokodare, who will need to prove himself capable of adapting to the demands of the Premier League.
While Genk are determined to keep their star forward at least until the end of the season, Arokodare's future remains uncertain.
