What Sevilla coach said about Super Eagles forward Ejuke after first game in 90 days
Published: January 19, 2025
Sevilla coach García Pimienta has delivered an encouraging message to Chidera Ejuke following the Nigerian winger’s return from a three-month injury layoff.
Ejuke made his long-awaited comeback on Saturday afternoon, coming off the bench in the 82nd minute of Sevilla's dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Girona at the Estadi Montilivi.
This marked his first game in 90 days for Sevilla, following his injury during the La Liga match against Barcelona on October 20, 2024.
The 26-year-old replaced Isaac Romero as the Andalusian side secured a crucial away win.
Pimienta acknowledged the challenges Ejuke faces in regaining full match fitness but emphasized his importance to the team.
"We knew it was going to be difficult for him because he had been injured for a long time and it was a very demanding game," Pimienta said to reporters in his post-match press conference.
"We wanted to give him minutes to get into a rhythm because he has to be important.
"He has to do more things, but it's normal. He has to get back to match fitness and he will be a very important player for us."
Ejuke sustained the hamstring setback on October 20, 2024, during a league match against Barcelona at the Olympic Stadium.
During his time on the sideline, Ejuke missed 12 matches, including nine league fixtures and three Copa del Rey ties.
Before his injury, Ejuke was one of Sevilla's most exciting performers, featuring in nine games across all competitions, scoring one goal.
With his return, Sevilla fans will be hopeful that Ejuke can quickly regain his form and play a pivotal role as the team pushes for success in the second half of the season.
