Rising Chelsea star Acheampong names Tosin among four senior players who encourage him
Published: January 19, 2025
Chelsea's rising star Josh Acheampong has credited several senior players for their encouragement and guidance as he progresses in his football career.
Among those he highlighted is Tosin, who has offered valuable advice and support.
Acheampong and Tyrique George, a winger of Nigerian descent, were officially promoted to Chelsea's first team on a permanent basis in December, a reward for their impressive performances at academy level.
The 18-year-old Acheampong expressed gratitude for the influence of Reece James (25), Tosin Adarabioyo (27), Marcus Bettinelli (32)and Levi Colwill (21), noting how their mentorship has helped him improve both on and off the pitch.
A former Manchester City youth captain, Tosin clearly possesses leadership qualities and is a seasoned campaigner in English football, with 229 appearances to his name since his professional debut.
This season, Acheampong has made five appearances for Chelsea, including two starts in the Premier League.
Speaking to Chelsea's official website, he said: "Now that I have this opportunity, I’m working hard every day.
"The older players remind me why I’m here and push me to stay focused. If I don’t do something, they’re on me straight away.
"Reece James, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marcus Bettinelli, and Levi Colwill – they’re all really encouraging and help out a lot."
With the exception of the Carabao Cup win against Barrow in September, Tosin has been included in every matchday squad announced by manager Enzo Maresca this season—a testament to his importance to the team.
