Dessers hat-trick inspires Rangers to huge win over Fraserburgh in Scottish Cup
Published: January 19, 2025
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers was the star of the show as Rangers cruised to a 5-0 win over Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup.
Dessers scored a hat-trick to lead his team to victory, redeeming himself after a recent slump in form.
Despite his decent statistics, Dessers hasn't been impressive with his finishing, and as a result, he found himself relegated to the bench in recent games.
Hamza Igamane had taken his place as the team's first-choice striker, and it seemed like Dessers' starting spot was under threat.
However, against Fraserburgh, Dessers was given the opportunity to start and prove himself.
He took his chance with both hands, scoring his first goal in the 27th minute from a James Tavernier corner.
Dessers' second goal came in the 57th minute, when he stabbed home a cross from Bajrami.
Dessers could have gotten his hat-trick in the 74th minute but his cross-cum shot found his grateful teammate McCausland at the back post who made no mistake in finding the back of the net.
He did eventually get his third and final goal, as he glided past the Fraserburgh defense to score in the 90th minute.
The hat-trick was a welcome return to form for Dessers, who has been working hard to regain his confidence in front of goal.
His performance against Fraserburgh will be a huge boost to his morale, and he will be hoping to carry this form into Rangers' upcoming games.
Rangers' manager will be delighted with Dessers' performance, as it gives him a selection headache ahead of the team's Europa League clash with Manchester United on Thursday.
With Dessers now back in the goals, it remains to be seen if he may find himself back in the starting lineup, potentially at the expense of the in-form Igamane.
With today's showings, the former Feyenoord marksman has taken his tally to sixteen goals in all competitions for Rangers this season.
