Chelsea the only exception: Osimhen's pal reveals Napoli frustrated every club interested in Nigeria star
Published: January 19, 2025
The future of Nigeria star Victor Osimhen has been a topic of discussion in recent weeks, with several European clubs linked to the Nigerian striker.
However, according to a close friend and journalist Buchi Laba, Osimhen is unlikely to make a move in the January transfer window.
The journalist, who is familiar with Osimhen's plans, revealed that the striker is currently focused on his loan spell at Galatasaray and will not be considering any transfers until the end of the season.
Laba disclosed that Napoli blocked all clubs trying to sign the former African Footballer of the Year during the summer transfer window, except for Chelsea, who, he claims, botched the deal to bring the striker to Stamford Bridge.
After the transfer window closed across the top five European leagues, Osimhen secured a season-long loan move to Turkish champions Galatasaray, where he has tallied fourteen goals in eighteen all-competition appearances.
Osimhen's future at Napoli is uncertain, with the Italian club reportedly willing to sell him only if they receive a substantial transfer fee.
With a termination clause of 75 million euros in his contract, it remains to be seen whether any club will be willing to meet Napoli's valuation.
"Napoli turned down and frustrated every club interested in Victor Osimhen at the beginning of the season," Laba stated via his X handle.
"The only club they didn’t frustrate is Chelsea and Chelsea ended up messing up any deal.
"He’s only focused on playing right now in Gala. Anything transfer will be later."
For now, it seems that Osimhen will remain at Galatasaray until the end of the season. The Turkish club will be hoping that he can continue to score goals and help them achieve their objectives.
As for Osimhen's long-term future, it is likely that he will have several options to consider.
The Premier League is a possible destination, but he is also attracting interest from other top European clubs.
