David Ankeye: Genoa loan out 22yo centre-forward to Romania club Rapid Bucharest
Published: January 21, 2025
Through a statement on the official website, Rapid Bucharest have announced that they have reached an agreement with Genoa for the loan of David Ankeye, with the Nigerian centre-forward set to play for the Romanian SuperLiga side until the summer of this year.
Ankeye arrived in Bucharest on Monday and has been signed as a replacement for Aaron Boupendza who is no longer part of the club's plans.
The Nigerian striker has departed Italian Serie A outfit Genoa on a temporary basis in search of regular playing opportunities.
This season, Ankeye has appeared in five matches for Genoa, all as a substitute, accumulating a total of 52 minutes against Juventus, Atalanta, Bologna, Lazio, and Sampdoria.
The 22-year-old was an unused substitute in nine Serie A games on the bounce before heading to Rapid Bucharest.
A product of Sidos FC, he lists Hammarby, Hammam Sousse and FC Sheriff as his previous employers.
Commenting on his move to Rapid Bucharest, Ankeye stated: “I know Rapid as a historic club in Romania, I followed the championship since I was in Moldova.
"Before coming here, I followed the team, the fans, and I am very motivated to be at Rapid.
"I can't wait to play and give everything for the team, to make the fans happy, I promise to give 100% in every match and take the team to the highest level.”
Last season, Ankeye scored 3 goals in European competition, against Servette Geneva and BATE Borisov (2).
After twenty-two games in the Romanian top-flight, Rapid Bucharest occupy the sixth position in the standings with 32 points accumulated.
