Josh Maja's injury: West Brom working on deal to sign Premier League striker
Published: January 21, 2025
Championship outfit West Brom are reportedly working on a deal to sign Ipswich Town centre-forward Ali Al-Hamadi before the close of the January transfer window following the injury suffered by Josh Maja.
Maja has been firing on all cylinders this season, netting 12 goals in the Championship, second only to Norwich City's Borja Sainz with 15.
A lower leg injury that needed surgery will sideline the Nigeria international for several weeks, leaving new Baggies boss Tony Mowbray without his services.
According to Express & Star, Ali Al-Hamadi is set to join West Brom on loan for the remainder of the season.
The report added that the Baggies were already in pursuit of a new attacker prior to Maja's injury but the need for a forward has become more pressing since the Nigerian's setback.
Ali Al-Hamadi has struggled for playing opportunities this season, logging 125 minutes spread across eleven matches in the Premier League, with all the appearances coming off the bench.
Sunderland academy graduate Maja returned to English football in the summer of 2023 after a four-and-a-half-year stint at Bordeaux, where he tallied 29 goals in 93 games.
Injuries marred his debut season at West Brom, restricting him to just one start in the Championship.
West Brom expect Maja to return to action during the spring.
