Former Real Madrid star urges Napoli to sign Lookman instead of Man Utd forward Alejandro Garnacho
Published: January 22, 2025
Former Real Madrid star Antonio Cassano has suggested that Napoli should target a move for Ademola Lookman rather than Manchester United young star Alejandro Garnacho.
The Serie A outfit are in the market for a forward in the January transfer window as a replacement for Georgian dazzler Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who has completed a move to Paris Saint-Germain in exchange for 70 million euros plus bonuses to Napoli.
Manchester United have lowered their demands in terms of Napoli or the other clubs that are interested in signing the Argentina international.
The Red Devils have reduced their original demand to approximately £55 million after negotiations, but the Parthenopeans have yet to meet that figure and are pushing for a deal nearer to £46 million.
Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim is wielding the axe and ready to rubberstamp the departure of Garnacho despite his potential.
Antonio Cassano questioned the idea of signing Alejandro Garnacho as Kvaratskhelia's replacement at Napoli, emphasizing that while the Argentine is talented, he is not a regular starter for a struggling Manchester United side.
During the Viva el Futbol podcast, via Siamo Il Napoli, Cassano suggested that the ideal solution would be for Napoli to invest 45-50 million euros, along with the price tag of Giacomo Raspadori, to sign Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, considering the Nigerian a more prepared player than Garnacho.
Cassano views Lookman, who has delivered impressive performances with Atalanta, as a complete player capable of scoring, assisting and enhancing Napoli's overall play.
He also noted that the reigning African Footballer of the Year was once on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain before the French club chose Kvaratskhelia instead.
The retired Italian international pointed out that Garnacho might struggle to adapt to a challenging environment like Napoli, where there is relentless pressure from both the coach and the fans.
