West Ham target Awoniyi addresses speculation about potential Nottingham Forest exit this winter
Published: January 23, 2025
West Ham United target Taiwo Awoniyi has responded to the growing rumours linking him with a departure from Nottingham Forest during the winter transfer window, amidst his ongoing frustration over limited playing time at Nottingham Forest.
Awoniyi, who was signed from Union Berlin with the expectation of being a regular starter, has seen his position in the team taken by Chris Wood due to persistent injury issues and a lack of form.
The Nigerian International has scored just once in 19 all-competition appearances this season.
This underwhelming output has raised questions about his future, with several reports suggesting a potential move to West Ham.
In an exclusive interview with Sportsboom, Awoniyi addressed the speculation, reaffirming his commitment to Forest despite his challenges.
"Transfers are part of football, and there will always be speculation. But my focus is entirely on Nottingham Forest," Awoniyi said, laughing off the rumours.
"This is a team with a lot of potential, and I want to be here to help achieve something special. I'm not thinking about leaving; I'm thinking about how I can contribute more to the success of this club."
Despite his reduced role in recent weeks, Awoniyi remains optimistic about his future at Forest.
He also spoke highly of the support he's received from the coaching staff, who have shown confidence in his abilities.
"I've spoken with the coaches, and they've been very supportive. They see me as an important part of the squad, even if I'm not starting regularly." Awoniyi explained.
"They've emphasised the importance of staying ready and being a team player. It's reassuring to know that they value what I bring to the table, and it pushes me to keep giving my best."
Awoniyi's determination to fight for his place at Nottingham Forest signals his commitment to the club as he looks to turn his fortunes around and make a positive impact in the second half of the season.
