'He falls offside a lot' - Former Galatasaray coach identifies a specific flaw in Osimhen's game
Published: January 23, 2025
Victor Osimhen, renowned for his speed and strength, has been a crucial figure for Galatasaray this season.
However, his recent performances have drawn scrutiny, particularly for his tendency to fall into offside traps.
Former Galatasaray coach and HT Spor commentator Mustafa Denizli has weighed in on the Nigerian striker’s struggles, identifying a specific flaw in his game.
In quotes relayed by habersarikirmizi.com, Denizli analyzed Osimhen’s offside issues, stating: "Osimhen does not make timing mistakes, he makes perimeter control mistakes. Osimhen is a very fast and strong football player."
The 26-year-old striker’s pace has been one of his greatest assets, enabling him to create chances and trouble defenders.
However, Denizli suggested that this same attribute might be contributing to his struggles in maintaining his position.
"He can even close 1-2 meters. There is a situation where he needs to score a goal as soon as possible, and this weakens his control ability," Denizli explained.
The experienced coach further highlighted that this lack of control often results in Osimhen being caught offside. "Osimhen may have such a problem. He falls offside a lot," he concluded.
Despite these criticisms, Osimhen remains a critical part of Galatasaray’s attack, with fans and analysts hopeful that he can address this issue and regain his clinical edge.
In the ongoing Turkish Super Lig season, the former African Footballer of the year has been caught offside twenty times in fourteen matches, trailing only Samsunspor's Marius Mouandilmadji (27) and Eyüpspor's Mame Thiam (21) for the most offside calls among players.
Six of the goals he has scored for Galatasaray were disallowed due to offside.
