Serie A club enquire about Leicester winger eligible to play for both Nigeria and England
Published: January 24, 2025
Serie A side Lecce have emerged as one of the clubs vying for the signature of Leicester City’s highly-rated young winger, Laolu Omobolaji, according to BBC Sport's news reporter Nizaar Kinsella.
The 17-year-old, who has been a standout performer for Leicester City's U18 squad, is reportedly in talks over a contract renewal with the Foxes.
However, his impressive displays have drawn attention from several European clubs, including Lecce.
Omobolaji has enjoyed a stellar season so far, scoring five goals and providing one assist in 11 appearances across all competitions in the Premier League 2 and the FA Youth Cup.
Lecce have formally enquired about the possibility of signing the talented winger, hoping to offer him a faster route to first-team football.
Known for his versatility, dazzling dribbling skills, and clinical finishing, Omobolaji has caught the eye of scouts across Europe.
Eligible to represent both Nigeria and England through his parents, the young winger’s growing profile has made him a hot commodity in the transfer market.
Omobolaji joined Leicester City in February 2024 and quickly established himself as a key player at the youth level.
While the Foxes are keen to secure his future with a contract extension, Lecce are positioning themselves as a compelling alternative, offering the opportunity to develop abroad with a clearer path to senior football.
As the January transfer window approaches, Omobolaji faces a significant decision regarding his future.
Staying at Leicester would allow him to continue his development in familiar surroundings, while a move to Lecce could accelerate his first-team ambitions in Italy’s top flight.
