Sky Sport Germany: Victor Boniface to earn N9.5b per season in new deal with Bayer Leverkusen
Published: January 24, 2025
Victor Boniface has reportedly extended his contract with Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen amid speculation linking him with a departure from the club during the January transfer window.
According to Sky Sport Germany, the Nigeria international signed a contract extension with Bayer Leverkusen, adding another year to his deal that was already set to expire in 2028.
Boniface's new deal includes a substantial pay rise, doubling his previous salary of three million euros to six million euros per season (approximately N9.5 billion in Nigerian currency).
Although injuries have slowed him down this season, Boniface remains a key player for Leverkusen, whom he joined from Belgian outfit Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer of 2023.
The 24-year-old has tallied 29 goals and produced eleven assists in 49 matches as a Bayer Leverkusen player.
Voted Bundesliga Rookie of the Season for 2023-2024, his goalscoring contributions played a key role in Leverkusen winning the Bundesliga title and DFB Cup, as well as reaching the final of the UEFA Europa League.
Despite extending his stay at the BayArena, a winter transfer cannot be entirely ruled out as Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly open to selling the Nigerian marksman for offers exceeding 50 million euros, with interest coming from the Premier League and the Saudi Pro League.
Boniface has not figured for Bayer Leverkusen since November 9, 2024 due to an injury he suffered while on international duty with the Super Eagles in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match with Rwanda.
He was an unused substitute during Leverkusen's 2-1 loss to Atlético Madrid in a UEFA Champions League encounter on Tuesday.
