'The guy is on fire' - Ex-Man City CB Onuoha sees shades of Arsenal legend in Newcastle's Isak
Published: January 26, 2025
Former Manchester City central defender Nedum Onuoha has lavished praise on Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, comparing the Swedish international to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
Speaking on BBC's Final Score while analyzing Newcastle's 3-1 victory over Southampton, Onuoha highlighted Isak's impressive performance, which included a brace that secured all three points for the Magpies.
"Alexander Isak is giving me little vibes of Thierry Henry, to be honest. He's looking so sharp right now," Onuoha remarked.
The former defender was particularly impressed by Isak's composure and finishing ability, praising the forward for making his goals look effortless.
"Those two finishes for those two goals make it seem like the easiest thing in the world. Credit to Jacob Murphy because it was a great ball into him," Onuoha added.
Isak has been in sensational form for Newcastle this season, and his performance against Southampton further solidified his reputation as one of the Premier League's most lethal forwards.
Onuoha expressed admiration for Isak's ability to create excitement whenever he is on the ball.
"The guy is on fire, every time the ball goes to his feet, you're expecting something to happen which says a lot for his ability," he concluded.
With 17 goals and five assists in 21 Premier League games, Isak has become a central figure in Newcastle's push for a top-four finish.
Onuoha's comparison to Thierry Henry places Isak in elite company as one of the Premier League's brightest stars.
