Iwobi's brilliance not enough in Fulham's loss to Manchester United; Bassey plays full game
Published: January 26, 2025
Alex Iwobi showcased a spirited performance in Fulham's narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester United in their Premier League encounter at Craven Cottage.
Both Iwobi and his Nigeria international teammate Calvin Bassey played the entire game, though the Cottagers let in a late goal, missing out on a clean sheet.
Despite the result, Iwobi was a standout figure for the Cottagers, displaying his versatility and creativity throughout the game.
Iwobi was heavily involved in Fulham's attacking efforts, consistently delivering precise crosses and threatening through balls.
His best moment came in the 19th minute when he skillfully maneuvered past defenders to fire a close-range shot.
However, Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana produced a stunning save to deny the Nigerian international.
Moments later, Iwobi delivered a pinpoint cross into the penalty area, but the visitors’ defense remained resolute.
The forward continued to work tirelessly, creating space and linking up with teammates.
In the 69th minute, he played a superb long ball to Rodrigo Muniz, but the Brazilian striker was unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
Iwobi also showed defensive discipline, tracking back to support Fulham's backline on several occasions.
Despite Iwobi’s efforts, Fulham struggled to convert their chances, with Onana in exceptional form for the Red Devils.
Lisandro Martinez broke the deadlock for Manchester United in the 78th minute with a deflected strike, leaving Fulham with little time to respond.
