Al Nassr open talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Boniface; Aston Villa's Jhon Duran also a candidate
Published: January 27, 2025
Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr have reportedly begun negotiations to secure the signature of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen during the winter transfer window.
The move is aimed at bolstering their forward line, following Anderson Talisca's departure to Fenerbahce.
Renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Al Nassr is keen to bring in a top-class striker to partner with Cristiano Ronaldo, and Boniface has emerged as a prime target.
The Italian also revealed that the other candidate is Jhon Durán but Aston Villa still insist on keeping him at the club.
The 24-year-old Nigerian has been a standout performer for Bayer Leverkusen, netting 29 goals and providing 11 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions since joining the Bundesliga champions.
Despite signing a contract extension with Leverkusen until 2028, Boniface's impressive form has attracted interest from top European clubs and now from the Saudi Pro League.
Al Nassr is reportedly determined to secure his services as they aim to remain competitive domestically and on the Asian stage.
Boniface's recent season, however, has been interrupted by injury.
He suffered a setback while on international duty with Nigeria in November 2024, forcing him to miss 11 matches across all competitions. Though he has since recovered, he is yet to make his return to the pitch.
The striker was named on the bench in recent high-profile matches against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League and RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, with Nathan Tella and Patrik Schick currently preferred in the starting lineup.
As negotiations progress, it remains to be seen if Al Nassr can lure the Nigerian international to Saudi Arabia.
Boniface's arrival could form a formidable partnership with Ronaldo, further strengthening Al Nassr's attacking options.
