Published: January 28, 2025
Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has expressed optimism about Nigeria's Group C draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they will face Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Fans are eagerly waiting to monitor the live scores of the matches during the tournament in Morocco.
Reacting to the draw, Troost-Ekong described the three teams as formidable opponents, stating that "Tunisia, Uganda, [and] Tanzania" are all teams that "need to be respected."
He emphasized that, in African football, there is "no such thing as an easy game," but noted that the Super Eagles have the experience necessary to handle the challenges ahead.
"We have the experience now to know how to handle these situations," Troost-Ekong said.
"I think we have everything in our team to make sure that we come out of this group and this time go all the way."
Reflecting on Nigeria's performance in the 2024 AFCON in Ivory Coast, the defender acknowledged that the team had learned valuable lessons. "We learned so much last year from the AFCON in Abidjan, but this time we will be more ready," he added.
Troost-Ekong further assured fans that the team will be preparing diligently over the coming year, focusing on fitness and readiness.
"We will be working hard throughout the year to make sure everyone is fit and ready," he said.
The 2025 AFCON is shaping up to be an exciting tournament for Nigeria, and with the guidance of the new coach, Troost-Ekong is confident the team will be in top form.
"Everyone is looking forward to getting going under the new coach," he concluded. "Yeah, exciting year ahead and very happy with the AFCON draw."
