PL Cup: Son of former Super Eagles defender makes full debut for Chelsea U21s
Published: January 28, 2025
Landon Emenalo, son of Nigeria's 1994 World Cup star Michael Emenalo, made his full debut for Chelsea's development squad as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Brentford in an U21 Premier League Cup fixture on Monday night at Wheatsheaf Park, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Three days after making his Premier League 2 debut off the bench against Southampton, Landon Emenalo was named in the starting lineup against the Bees.
The versatile tri-national midfielder has been involved in the last two games played by Chelsea U21s, after signing his first professional contract with the Blues.
Chelsea came back twice from a goal down to secure a draw, with Sam Rak-Sakyi's header in the 90th minute securing them a share of the spoils.
Barely a minute into the game, Kyrell Lisbie, the son of retired Jamaica international forward Kevin Lisbie, put Brentford ahead with a sublime volley.
In the 20th minute, Ato Ampah got Chelsea back on terms with a cracking goal, heading the ball into the net after a brilliant cross from Samuels-Smith.
With 81 minutes on the clock, Lisbie, with a clever finish, restored Brentford's one-goal lead, but Rak-Sakyi pinched a point for Chelsea with his late goal.
This season, Emenalo has showcased his versatility by playing as both a central defender and defensive midfielder for Chelsea's youth teams.
Chelsea first teamer Tyrique George was on U21 duty on Monday, while Brentford forward Michael Olakigbe played the last twenty minutes following his recall from a loan spell at League One side Wigan Athletic.
