Confirmed: Ronaldo's Al-Nassr complete deadline day deal for Aston Villa striker instead of Boniface
Published: February 01, 2025
With a statement on the official website, Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr have announced the deadline day signing of Colombia national teamer Jhon Durán from Premier League club Aston Villa.
Duran has put pen to paper on a contract with Al-Nassr valid until the end of the 2029-2030 season.
After scoring 12 goals for Aston Villa this campaign, highlighted by his winner against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, the striker is set to continue his career in Saudi Arabia.
Although the transfer fee has not been disclosed by Al-Nassr and Aston Villa, Duran switched to the Saudi Pro League vice champions in exchange for 77 million euros, according to multiple reports.
Al-Nassr have completed a deal for Durán after negotiating a contract with Victor Boniface but it appears the Nigeria international was only Plan B as a proposed move fell through despite the striker undergoing a medical.
Boniface had already agreed personal terms with Al-Nassr and Bayer Leverkusen were expecting a windfall but the signatures were missing.
Had the deal been finalized, the 24-year-old would have joined forces with Portuguese icon Cristiano Ronaldo in Al-Nassr’s attack.
Boniface is now back to full fitness, having spent more than two months on the sidelines due to a thigh injury he suffered while on international duty with the Super Eagles in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Rwanda's Wasps in Uyo.
The former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise man will reach a milestone of 50 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen if he plays against TSG Hoffenheim on Sunday.
