Not Gift Orban or Tolu Arokodare: Galatasaray sign strike partner for Victor Osimhen
Published: February 02, 2025
Galatasaray have officially confirmed the signing of Spanish striker Álvaro Morata to partner Nigeria's Victor Osimhen in attack.
This move marks the end of speculation surrounding Nigerian forwards Gift Orban and Tolu Arokodare, who had been linked with a move to the Turkish giants during the January transfer window.
2023 Super Eagles invitee Orban sealed a permanent transfer to TSG Hoffenheim last month, while Arokodare is unlikely to depart Racing Genk in the winter transfer market.
With Mauro Icardi sidelined due to injury, Galatasaray has acted quickly to secure Morata as their new forward.
The club’s decision to move for the experienced Spanish striker was a response to Icardi's absence, ensuring that they maintain a competitive attacking force in both domestic and European competitions.
Morata’s arrival in Istanbul signals the start of a new chapter for Galatasaray, who have placed their faith in the seasoned forward to complement Osimhen’s dynamic playstyle.
The Spanish international, with his vast experience in top European leagues such as La Liga, Serie A, and the Premier League, will add depth and quality to the Galatasaray attack.
The signing is seen as a strategic move for the club, who have ambitions to maintain their position at the top of the Turkish Süper Lig and push for further success in Europe.
Morata’s experience in high-pressure environments will be crucial as the team looks to navigate the challenges ahead in both domestic competitions and the UEFA Champions League.
Galatasaray fans have been excited by the prospect of Morata partnering Osimhen in the attack.
The combination of Osimhen’s clinical finishing and Morata’s experience could form a deadly strike partnership for the club.
The two forwards bring different qualities to the table, with Morata's versatility and vision complementing Osimhen’s speed and goal-scoring prowess.
