'Hasn't earned that much money' - Leverkusen captain explains why Boniface considered transfer to Al-Nassr
Published: February 03, 2025
Bayer Leverkusen captain Lukas Hradecky has shed light on why Nigerian forward Victor Boniface considered a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr during the winter transfer window.
Boniface, who recently returned from injury to score in Leverkusen's 3-1 victory over Hoffenheim, was strongly linked with a move to Al-Nassr.
However, the Saudi club ultimately opted to sign Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán instead.
The Nigerian International opened the scoring for Leverkusen with a powerful left-footed strike into the bottom right corner.
Speaking about the speculation surrounding Boniface's potential transfer, Hradecky admitted that financial factors played a significant role in the striker's decision-making process.
"He was often injured. He hasn't earned that much money in his career. So, in part, probably economically, yes. It was a lot of money," said Hradecky, in quotes relayed by Tag24.
Hradecky praised Boniface for his impact and noted that he has earned the respect of his teammates.
"It's remarkable how directly he came," he stated.
"That's the best medicine you can give the club and yourself," said Hradecky. "He has the respect of all of us."
Boniface has been instrumental for the German club, scoring nine goals in sixteen games across all competitions.
