'Can play in that position' – Arsenal boss Arteta not ruling out deploying Nwaneri as a centre-forward

Mikel Arteta has left the door open to deploying Ethan Nwaneri as a centre forward, stressing the need for flexibility in Arsenal's attacking setup.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle United, Arteta discussed Nwaneri's potential role in the frontline.
The young attacking midfielder, who has predominantly played in the middle of the pitch, has also shown his ability to operate on the wings.
However, Arteta suggested that the option of playing him as a centre forward is not out of the question.
“We’re going to have to be very flexible in the frontline and now the ones that we have in our feet, make sure they stay fit and keep contributing,” Arteta was quoted as saying by Arsenal's official webpage.
He went on to list several players who could fill the role, including Leandro Trossard, Raheem Sterling, and Gabriel Martinelli.
Arteta indicated that Nwaneri could also be used in this position as part of Arsenal’s dynamic attack.
"Leo can play in that position, Raheem has played in that position, Ethan I think can play in that position, Martinelli can play there so let’s see in relation to how everybody is; the moment and opponent, but at some point, we’re going to have to try something different,” Arteta explained.
Nwaneri’s versatility has caught the attention of the Arsenal manager, who has spoken about the need for players to adapt depending on the match and circumstances.
While the teenager’s natural position remains in the attacking midfield or on the wing, Arteta has suggested that playing in the centre forward role could be part of a broader tactical strategy.
The Arsenal boss also emphasized the importance of maintaining squad flexibility, especially with the club’s congested fixture list.
The team’s adaptability will be crucial in ensuring that Arteta’s squad remains competitive across all competitions.
As for Nwaneri, Arteta has long been keen to nurture his development and has expressed his trust in the youngster.
Whether Nwaneri will take up a central forward role remains to be seen, but Arteta's comments signal that it is a possibility as the Gunners look to maintain momentum heading into key fixtures.
