Meet Habeebat Gbajabiamila: Brentford's teenage star eligible to represent Nigeria
Published: February 06, 2025
Apart from Frank Onyeka who is currently on loan at Augsburg in Germany, it would interest you to know that there is another Nigerian at Brentford.
Meet Habeebat Gbajabiamila, the 17-year-old English-Nigerian starlet who currently plays for the club's women's team in the London and South East Women's Regional Football League.
Born on April 11, 2007, to Nigerian parents in England, Habeebat's footballing journey began at the tender age of 7.
Habeebat's early start in football was marked by her joining FC Jéan Té Lé, where she spent three years at the club.
Her potential was evident even back then, and by the time she was 10, she had joined the Crystal Palace academy.
It was here that she spent seven crucial years developing her game, and her hard work and dedication paid off when she made the jump to Brentford's Women's First Team at just 17 years old.
Standing at 160 cm tall, Habeebat may be small in stature, but she is giant in terms of her talent and potential.
Her teammates describe her as "electric, direct, and fast," and these qualities make her a dynamic player on the pitch. Currently balancing playing football with her studies, she is studying for a BTEC Level 3 in Business.
One of Habeebat's proudest moments came during a recent tour where she not only scored one of two goals but also assisted the other, on her debut for The Bees.
Since then, she has also earned some inclusions in Brentford's match day squads for games in the Regional Football League.
Through her Nigerian parents, she is eligible for a call-up to Nigeria's U20 women's team, the Falconets, as well as the senior women's national team, the Super Falcons.
Despite being eligible for England, she hasn't featured for England's youth teams at any level in the past.
Given her young age, she could even be in contention to represent the country at the next edition of the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup, should the national team handlers deem her worthy.
For now, though, her focus would be on continuing to develop her game and making a name for herself at Brentford FC Women's First Team.
