'Can adapt better' - Ex-Lazio midfielder backs Dele-Bashiru to be a key player in Europa League
Published: February 08, 2025
Former Lazio midfielder Roberto Rambaudi has expressed confidence in Fisayo Dele-Bashiru's potential to enhance his performance as Lazio prepares to enter the knockout phase of the UEFA Europa League.
Dele-Bashiru, who joined Lazio from Hatayspor last summer, has shown promise in European competitions, netting two goals and providing two assists in six matches, helping his team secure the top position in their group.
Despite his success on the European stage, Dele-Bashiru has faced challenges in the domestic league, where he has managed only two goals in fourteen appearances.
Rambaudi believes that the 24-year-old can surpass his current output and become a key player for Lazio in the upcoming matches.
"List? In the European field Dele-Bashiru can adapt better," Rambaudi stated during an interview with SVB via radiosei.
Lazio manager, Marco Baroni has submitted the list of players for the knockout phase of the tournament, opting to retain Dele-Bashiru among the squad despite some omissions.
He emphasized that the inclusion of Dele-Bashiru in the squad for the knockout stage reflects the coach's commitment to maintaining the momentum established during the group stage.
Rambaudi noted, "However, it is fair to say that the choices were made to give continuity to the group that has done well in Europe up to now."
As Dele-Bashiru looks to improve his league form, he also has an eye on the future, aiming to solidify his place in Nigeria's national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
With Nigeria currently sitting fifth in Group C with three points from four games, the upcoming matches in March will be crucial for the team's aspirations to qualify for the mundial.
