Super Eagles midfielder Dele-Bashiru nets third league goal in Lazio's demolition of Monza
Published: February 09, 2025
Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was on target as Lazio secured a dominant 5-1 victory over Monza at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
Dele-Bashiru, who started on the bench, was introduced in the 65th minute, replacing Gustav Isaksen.
The Nigerian international made an immediate impact, scoring in the 88th minute—just two minutes after Monza's Stefano Sensi pulled one back.
His goal capped off a commanding performance by Lazio, with Adam Marušić, Pedro, and Taty Castellanos also getting on the scoresheet.
The strike took Dele-Bashiru’s Serie A tally to three goals in 16 appearances this season. Despite early struggles adapting to life in Italy following his summer move from Hatayspor, the 24-year-old is beginning to find his rhythm.
While he has faced challenges in the league, his performances in the UEFA Europa League have been impressive, contributing two goals and two assists in six appearances to help Lazio secure a spot in the Round of 16.
His recent resurgence comes at a crucial time for both club and country.
Lazio is pushing for a UEFA Champions League qualification spot, while Nigeria is in a must-win situation as they prepare for the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March.
With his confidence growing, Dele-Bashiru will aim to maintain his form and play a key role in both Lazio’s European ambitions and Nigeria’s World Cup qualification hopes.
