Peseiro's agent confirms ex-Super Eagles coach has agreed one-and-a-half year deal to coach Zamalek
Published: February 14, 2025
Marwan El-Sherbini, the agent of former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro, has confirmed that the Portuguese football tactician is on the brink of being announced as the new coach of Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek.
Following the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he led the Super Eagles to second place, Jose Peseiro decided against extending his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation and is now unemployed.
Zamalek dismissed Christian Gross after Thursday's training session, agreed to pay his penalty clause, and informed him that his contract was terminated, with a new coach set to take over the following day.
Peserio is returning to Egyptian football nine years after cutting ties with Zamalek's bitter rivals Al Ahly.
The 64-year-old has already arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo ahead of his unveiling by the fourteen-time Egyptian Premier League champions.
El-Sherbini, Peseiro's agent, refused to reveal his client's salary and confirmed that the Portuguese will have his first training on Friday, February 14.
Speaking to On Time sports channel, via Fil Goal, he stated: "The club is responsible for clarifying the numbers, salaries and contractual matters."
"Peseiro was very welcoming of the idea of being in Egypt and Zamalek.”
El-Sherbini added: "The contract is for a year and a half, and there are 4 foreign assistants. The club will confirm the identity of the Egyptian assistant coach.
"Peseiro will have his first training session on Friday, and will play the Petrojet match and then Al-Ahly, according to the schedule.
"The negotiations did not take long, but rather were completed quickly due to the desire of Peseiro and the club, and the two parties quickly reached an agreement.
"Things went smoothly in the presence of big names like Ahmed Hossam Mido, Hussein El-Sayed and the rest of the Zamalek board members."
Peseiro has worked with teams based in Portugal, Greece, Romania, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates in the past.
