Four Nigerian teenagers and Butler-Oyedeji train with Arsenal first team before West Ham clash
Published: February 18, 2025
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta ran the rule over four Nigerian teenagers on Tuesday, ahead of the London derby against West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
According to the training images published by the Gunners on the official webpage, history-making midfielder Ethan Nwaneri (17), left-back Josh Ogunnaike (16), right-back Josh Nichols (18) and Andre Harriman-Annous (17) participated in today's workout.
Nathan Butler-Oyedeji (22) was also spotted in today's training session at Sobha Realty Training Centre, suggesting he could be in the mix for a spot in the squad for the match against the Hammers.
Fullbacks Ogunnaike and Nichols have been promoted to first team training, with Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu sidelined with a long-term injury.
Exciting forward Harriman-Annous and Butler-Oyedeji have climbed the pecking order due to the season-ending injuries suffered by Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are still on the mend from their respective hamstring injuries.
Nwaneri, Butler-Oyedeji, and Nichols have received call-ups for Premier League games this season and made appearances for the first team, while U18 players Ogunnaike and Harriman-Annous have yet to be included in a first-team matchday squad.
Arsenal are second in the Premier League standings with 53 points, seven less than log leaders Liverpool who can go ten points clear with a victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
