Fabrizio Romano reveals PL target Lookman will leave Atalanta as Gasperini tries to mend rift
Published: February 22, 2025
Ademola Lookman's time at Atalanta appears to be nearing its end following a tense fallout with manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
The forward, who etched his name in the club's history with a stunning hat-trick in the 2024 Europa League final, found himself at odds with Gian Piero Gasperini after a missed penalty against Club Brugge in a Champions League clash on Tuesday, February 18.
Gasperini's public criticism—calling Lookman 'one of the worst penalty takers I have ever seen'—did not sit well with the player.
Feeling disrespected, Lookman issued a statement expressing his disappointment.
In an attempt to repair the fractured relationship, Gasperini later spoke positively about the Nigerian international in a press conference on Saturday, but the damage was seemingly done.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Lookman is set to leave Atalanta in the summer of 2025, adding that the African Footballer of the Year is attracting interest from the English Premier League and other leagues, including Serie A.
"He already had the possibility to leave Atalanta one year ago, then Atalanta decided to sell Koopmeiners and Lookman was not leaving anymore," Romano stated.
"Now in summer 2025, Lookman will go. There was interest from the Premier League last season and he remains on the list of Premier League clubs.
"There is interest from other countries, including Italy, where Lookman is attracting interest, so things will happen around Ademola Lookman but my information is that he will go in the summer and it's not going to be changed the relationship with Gasperini or with any other person in Atalanta.”
The 27-year-old Lookman has registered 70 goal involvements (47 goals, 23 assists) in 106 matches since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2022.
