Nottingham Forest defender Aina urges teammates to approach Newcastle clash with right mentality
Published: February 23, 2025
Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has called on his Nottingham Forest teammates to approach their Premier League clash against Newcastle United with the right mindset as they aim for a crucial victory at St. James' Park on Sunday afternoon.
Aina, who has been one of Forest’s standout performers this season, has been named in the starting lineup for the encounter.
The Nigerian international has made a significant impact, scoring two goals and providing one assist in 25 Premier League appearances so far this campaign.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Aina expressed his disappointment with their previous result and emphasized the need for his side to remain focused and determined in order to claim all three points.
"We were disappointed with last weekend but this week is the same as every week, try to go into the game with the right mindset to take all three points," he stated.
"Work hard for each other, do the right things on the pitch, try to cut out mistakes and play well and try to win the game."
Last weekend, Nottingham Forest lost 2-1 to Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Acknowledging the quality of the opposition, Aina admitted that Newcastle poses a tough challenge but remains optimistic about Forest’s chances of securing a favorable result.
"Yes we won here last season but that was last season. Newcastle are a great team with good players and a fantastic coach.
"We know they are a tough side to play and it will be a difficult game, especially coming here, but we hope to do our best and get something out of the game."
Aina will be looking to play a key role in helping Forest secure another victory at St. James’ Park, while also maintaining his top form ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March.
