Man-in-form Jacob Murphy on target for Newcastle in 7-goal thriller against Ola Aina's Forest
Published: February 23, 2025
Jacob Murphy continued his fine form for Newcastle United, finding the net in their thrilling 4-3 victory over Nottingham Forest at St. James' Park.
While Murphy remains eligible to represent Nigeria, his counterpart Ola Aina, a full Super Eagles international, was also in action for Forest.
Murphy struck in the 25th minute to put Newcastle ahead, capitalizing on a rebound to score his side's second goal.
The winger has been in impressive form this season, playing a key role in Eddie Howe's attacking setup.
His performances have reportedly caught the attention of Nigeria's Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.
Including his strike against Nottingham Forest, Murphy has registered ten goal involvements (5 goals, 5 assists) in his last twelve matches in the Premier League.
Aina, meanwhile, gave away a penalty which was converted by Alexander Isak in the 33rd minute.
The match saw goals from Callum Hudson-Odoi for Forest, while Newcastle responded through Lewis Miley and Alexander Isak, who converted a penalty.
Forest pushed for an equalizer late on, with Ryan Yates scoring in stoppage time, but Newcastle held on for a crucial win.
With Murphy's form attracting international attention, he remains a key figure for Newcastle United as they push for a Champions League spot.
Newcastle United are fifth in the Premier League table with 44 points, three less than third-placed Nottingham Forest.
