'No seriousness' - Pundit questions Galatasaray coach for starting Osimhen on the bench
Published: February 28, 2025
Turkish football commentator Ertem Şener has publicly criticized Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk for his decision to start Victor Osimhen and other key players on the bench during the club's goalless draw against Konyaspor.
Osimhen, who has been in fine form since joining Galatasaray on loan last summer, was only introduced in the second half as the team struggled to break down their opponents.
Despite dominating possession, Galatasaray failed to find a breakthrough and ultimately progressed to the Turkish Cup quarter-finals on card difference.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, via habersarikirmizi.com, Şener did not hold back in his assessment of Buruk's tactical choices.
"I understood this, there is no seriousness in Galatasaray. Okan Buruk does not care about the Turkish Cup to wear the 5th star," he said.
"I mean, it is that clear. Look at the minutes when Victor Osimhen and the other 11 players entered the game?
"The match is not going, the lock is not opening, coach, take him at the beginning of the second half.
"What would have happened if you had conceded 1 goal by accident? Things would have been in trouble. Now you have advanced to the quarter finals due to the card difference."
Victor Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray from Napoli in the summer, has been a standout performer for the Turkish giants.
The Nigerian international has netted 20 goals and provided five assists in 27 matches across all competitions.
Osimhen will now look to maintain his fine form and help Nigeria secure crucial victories in the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March.
