Super Eagles hopeful Arokodare breaks personal scoring record as Genk and Charleroi draw
Published: March 01, 2025
Super Eagles hopeful Tolu Arokodare surpassed his personal record for the most goals he has scored in a single league season after finding the net during Racing Genk's 1-1 draw against Sporting Charleroi in a Jupiler Pro League encounter at Stade du Pays de Charleroi on Friday night, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Arokodare's previous best scoring season was in the 2020 campaign when he netted fifteen goals in the colours of Latvian top-flight club Valmiera.
After equaling his personal record for goals in a single campaign against Standard Liege on February 14, he netted in the next away game at Sporting Charleroi to set a new record.
With twenty minutes remaining, Arokodare broke the deadlock, heading the ball into the net after he was found by a cross from Jarne Steuckers.
That goal not only broke Arokodare's personal record but also strengthened his position as the top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League with sixteen goals from twenty eight matches.
In the 90th minute, Racing Genk were denied all three points as Daan Heymans equalized from the spot.
Arokodare has scored against twelve different teams this season, namely OH Leuven, Club Brugge, Beerschot VA, Cercle Brugge, FCV Dender EH, Sint-Truiden, KAA Gent, Charleroi, RSC Anderlecht, Antwerp, KVC Westerlo and Standard Liege
The 24-year-old will be hoping his recent displays are enough to convince Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle to name him in the squad for this month's 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
