'Injury-prone players - Luton Town pundit slams owners over signing of Victor Moses, others
Published: March 01, 2025
Luton Town pundit Simon Mills has criticized the club's ownership over their recruitment strategy, including last summer's signing of Nigerian winger Victor Moses.
Moses joined Luton on a free transfer after leaving Spartak Moscow, making 18 league appearances and scoring one goal.
However, he has struggled in recent weeks, failing to make the matchday squad in the last seven league games.
His absence, along with the underperformance of other summer signings, has left Luton in a precarious position at the bottom of the table.
With just 28 points from 34 league games, Luton sit five points adrift of safety, increasing concerns about relegation.
Mills believes the club's transfer decisions have contributed to their struggles in the Championship this season and urged the owners to rethink their approach and avoid signing injury-prone players in the future.
Speaking to Football League World, Mills expressed his frustration with the club's transfer dealings and called for a return to a more disciplined recruitment strategy.
"My one message to the club ownership would be to wake up, adjust your strategies that you've been employing in the last two years in regards to transfers and the type of players that we sign," Mills said.
"Stop taking risks on injury-prone players. Focus on what actually brought us to the dance, which wasn't this free-flowing attacking football that never materialised, but being strong in defence, and in the air, and being able to terrify any opponent we play. And yeah, that's about it."
With the season nearing its final stretch, Luton Town faces an uphill battle to avoid relegation.
