'You have to fight' - Osimhen urges Galatasaray teammates after two dropped points in title race
Published: March 03, 2025
Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has urged his Galatasaray teammates to remain focused in the race for the Turkish Super Lig title following their 3-3 draw against Kasimpasa on Sunday afternoon.
Osimhen was on target twice, but his brace was not enough to secure all three points at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium.
The result allowed title rivals Fenerbahce to close the gap on Galatasaray to just four points, increasing the pressure in the championship race.
Speaking after the game, Osimhen expressed his disappointment with the result but praised his teammates for their fighting spirit.
"I would say disappointment. That's the best way to put it. We fought against an effective opponent. I'm proud of my teammates for their efforts. Football is like that sometimes," he was quoted as saying by Galatasaray's official website.
With eleven matches left in the season, Osimhen stressed the importance of avoiding complacency, highlighting the competitiveness of the league.
"This is a really tough league. You have to fight well from the first minute to the last minute. You can be punished very quickly. We continue in the championship race. We have all the quality needed to win."
The Nigerian international reassured fans of his commitment to the team's success, emphasizing unity and teamwork as key to winning the title.
"I love this team very much. I love my teammates very much, too. I want to do everything for success. I want to support them.
"I think my friends have the same mentality, it doesn't matter if they are in the first 11 or on the bench, it is very important for everyone to fight together.
"We feel united with our coach, as players, and with our fans. Sometimes, even if I don't score, I mark and help the defense. I want to support my team no matter what.
"At the end of the day, we fight to win. We will go into every match to get 3 points and we are the biggest candidate for the championship."
Galatasaray will now look to bounce back in their next fixture as they aim to maintain their advantage at the top of the Super Lig standings.
