Ejuke scores in first La Liga start in 140 days as Sevilla win at Real Sociedad
Published: March 10, 2025
Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke was the hero for Sevilla as his goal secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena on Sunday night.
Making his first La Liga start in 140 days, Ejuke found the breakthrough shortly after halftime following a goalless first 45 minutes.
The Nigerian international found the bottom right corner with a composed finish after receiving a precise pass from Saul Niguezz inside the box.
The goal marked his third goal contribution in 17 La Liga appearances this season, with two goals and one assist to his name.
Ejuke was sidelined for several weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in October 2024 during Sevilla’s 5-1 loss to Barcelona at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
The injury forced him to miss nine league games before making his return in a 2-1 win over Girona in January 2025.
Before his injury, Ejuke was an integral part of manager García Pimienta’s setup, scoring once in nine league appearances. However, he struggled to regain his place in the starting XI after returning to full fitness.
With this goal, the Nigerian forward will hope to impress his coach and reclaim a regular spot in Sevilla’s lineup.
He was substituted in the final 20 minutes as Sevilla sought to protect their narrow lead, with Juanlu Sánchez coming on in his place.
Ejuke’s recent form has earned him a place in Nigeria’s 39-man provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
New Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle will be watching closely as Ejuke aims to stake his claim for a role in Nigeria’s crucial qualifiers later this month.
