Sevilla striker sends message to ex-international teammate Igoh Ogbu after first Nigeria call-up
Published: March 11, 2025
Sevilla striker Akor Adams has taken to social media to send a message to Igoh Ogbu after the Slavia Prague central defender received his first ever call-up to Nigeria's senior national team, the Super Eagles.
Initially included in a 39-man provisional squad, Ogbu has earned his first invitation to the Super Eagles ahead of the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda's Wasps and Zimbabwe's Warriors.
Competing for a place in the starting lineup, he faces tough opposition from Fulham’s Calvin Bassey and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations standout William Troost-Ekong.
Adams knows Ogbu from way back as they were teammates in the Nigeria U20 setup, making the roster for the 2019 Fifa U20 World Cup in Poland.
In addition, they were previously teammates at Norwegian club Lillestrom and are looked after by the same Nigerian agent, Atta Aneke.
Ogbu has been included in the Super Eagles final 23-man squad following his outstanding performances for Slavia Prague in the Chance Liga, where he has scored once in nineteen matches.
The 25-year-old has appeared in seven matches in European competitions this term, all of which he started.
During Jose Peseiro's tenure as Nigeria coach, some Super Eagles fans argued that he should have been included in the squad.
After missing out on the final Super Eagles squad, Adams took to Instagram to congratulate Ogbu on his selection, writing, "First of many."
