Rangers eye move for 27yo Nigerian forward as potential replacement for Cyriel Dessers
Published: March 15, 2025
Rangers are reportedly keeping a close eye on St Mirren's Nigerian forward, Toyosi Olusanya, as a possible replacement for Cyriel Dessers should the latter depart in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Football Insider reported that the Scottish giants are exploring options to reinforce their attacking line amid growing uncertainty over Dessers' future at Ibrox.
Dessers was linked with a move away from Rangers during the winter transfer window, attracting interest from clubs such as Leganes, Cagliari, and other European sides.
Despite multiple inquiries, the Nigerian striker remained at the club.
However, speculation regarding his exit is expected to resurface when the transfer window reopens in the summer, as Rangers are reportedly still open to offers for him.
The club is reportedly prepared to sell the forward for the right price, prompting them to scout possible replacements.
However, Olusanya has emerged as a prime candidate following an impressive campaign with St Mirren, where he has netted eight goals in the Scottish Premiership this season.
Rangers have been tracking the 27-year-old closely, especially after his standout performances against them earlier in the season.
The Nigerian forward is seen as a player who would tick a lot of boxes for Rangers, regardless of who takes over as the permanent manager.
His experience in Scottish football makes him an attractive prospect, as he would require little to no adaptation period upon joining the club.
With Dessers' future in doubt, the club may intensify their pursuit of Olusanya as they look to reshape their attacking options ahead of the new season.
