Osimhen brushes off Manchester United and Chelsea transfer question from Rwandan journalist
Published: March 22, 2025
Nigeria’s Super Eagles revived their 2026 Fifa World Cup qualification hopes with a commanding 2-0 victory over Rwanda on Friday at the Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali.
Star striker Victor Osimhen was the hero of the night, netting both goals to secure the much-needed three points for the Nigerian side.
Osimhen, who is currently on loan from Napoli to Galatasaray, showcased his lethal finishing ability, scoring in each half to sink the Rwandan team.
His first goal came in the 11th minute, when Ademola Lookman delivered a pinpoint free-kick which he calmly slotted past the goalkeeper to register his first goal of the qualifying campaign.
Just before halftime, Osimhen found the net again, outpacing his marker to claim possession before surging forward and expertly lofting the ball over Ntwari.
His composed finish extended Nigeria’s advantage, leaving Rwanda with a steep challenge after the break.
After the match, according to a YouTube video from E M Sports TV, a Rwandan journalist asked Osimhen if a potential transfer to Manchester United or Chelsea was something he would consider in the next window.
However, the Super Eagles star refused to comment on the speculation, instead shifting his focus to Nigeria’s next match against Zimbabwe.
The victory moves Nigeria up in their qualification group standings, keeping their hopes alive for a spot at the 2026 World Cup.
The Super Eagles will now turn their attention to their clash with Zimbabwe, where another win could further strengthen their campaign.
