Troost-Ekong highlights two Rwanda players who impressed him during Super Eagles win v Wasps
Published: March 22, 2025
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has singled out two Rwandan players who impressed him during Nigeria's 2-0 victory over the Wasps in Kigali.
The former Watford defender played the full 90 minutes as Nigeria secured a crucial win at the Amahoro Stadium, reigniting their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking after the match, Troost-Ekong acknowledged the quality of Rwanda's squad, particularly highlighting midfielder Djihad Bizimana and striker Innocent Nshuti for their standout performances.
"I am not thinking about coaching yet. I want to play the World Cup, that's the only thing on my mind. I think Rwanda has a great team. I love their team spirit.
"If I had to choose one or two, I will probably say the captain (Djihad Bizimana). I think he's very good at dividing the play, getting into space, finding the pockets, and also making the team thick," Ekong stated.
"He also praised Rwanda's striker, whom he has faced multiple times, saying: "And also the striker (Innocent Nshuti)that I played against now three times. He understands well how to make the runs and getting into space behind."
"He's quite big but he's fast as well. They are definitely quality players in the squad and I don't want to miss out on anyone. Those are the two that are first on my mind."
Nigeria will now shift focus to their next World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe on Tuesday in Uyo, as they look to maintain momentum in their qualification campaign.
